In particular a major issue has been the desire to maintain those standards of Sportsmanship and Hospitality which have served to distinguish our football from that played in the professional game, or in other competitions outside the A.F.A. It is a subject which your Committee feel is very important and as a result various steps have been taken to make sure that our football can continue to flourish for many years to come. Following initial discussions concerning this subject, representatives from the Executive Committees of the Old Boys League and the Southern Olympian League met recently and have agreed to progress discussions with a view to effecting a merger of the two Leagues. There are obviously many issues to discuss and many problems to resolve, but the intention is that all these matters will be put in place in time for the new merged League to operate from the beginning of the 2002/3 season. This announcement is being made at the Annual General Meetings of both Leagues and the matter has also been briefly discussed with the A.F.A. Any further information can be obtained from your League Officers.
